Ever since the late 90s (when I began browsing through the Victoria's Secret catalogue to to explore my options for that summer's bathing suits), I noticed Laetitia Casta. One of the main reasons she stood out from the other girls was because her beauty was fresh and natural, and she was not rail thin. I looked up the details on Laetitia and found out that she was discovered by a photographer on the beach at Corsica while vacationing with her family. She has appeared as a Guess? girl, on the covers of major international magazines (e.g., Elle, Galmour, Cosmopolitan, Vogue, etc.), and modeled for huge fashion names (e.g., Chanel, Yves Saint Laurent, Luis Vuitton, Ralph Lauren, Givenchy, etc.). Also, she has become a well-known actress in France (e.g. she has starred in Asterix & Obelix Take On Cesar). Here, I have selected photos of the young Laetitia in the 80s and the 90s. 

J’ai remarque Laetitia Casta à la fin des années 1990 quand j’ai commencé à suivre la mode (notamment des maillots de bain) dans le catalogue du Victoria’s Secret. Sa beauté est naturelle et elle n’est pas trop mince comme des autres « top models ». Pendant qu’elle passait ses vacances avec sa famille à la Corse, un photographe a découvert Laetitia sur la plage quand elle avait seulement 15 ans. Ensuite, elle est remarquée (rapidement) par photographes et couturiers comme Chanel, Yves Saint Laurent, Luis Vuitton, Ralph Lauren, et Givenchy. Elle appariât sur les couvertures des grands magazines de mode comme Rolling Stone, Elle, Galmour, Cosmopolitan, et Vogue. D’ailleurs, elle est devenue une actrice qui est très connue en France. With all the buzz surrounding Vito Schnabel and Demi Moore dating, it is Vito’s father, Julian Schnabel, who has instead captured all of my attention. I am particularly in love with Julian’s home in New York City (Palazzo Chupi) and feel that it has some of the most amazing interior architecture and décor I have seen. The play on colors and textures is bold, mysterious, beautiful, elegant, and interesting.

One of the major American brands that is widely popular amongst the American upper middle class, known for its quality and peppiness is J.Crew. The modern J.Crew has a Ralph Lauren look at a lower price. The style is very classic and really great quality. It's also practical and mostly comfortable for everyday. I prefer to mix it with not such classic clothes and cater it to a style of my own.  The brand has not expanded internationally (other than to Canada). There have also been plans to open J.Crew stores in the U.K. What do you think fashionsitas about the J.Crew-American-preppy look?

While I was taking a break from my studies and enjoying Thanksgiving, we watched the fantasy film The Golden Compass. The movie is based on a novel called Northern Lights. Nicole Kidman plays Ms. Coulter, who is depicted as a frigid ice queen and is the main villain in the film. Her classic and elegant style grabbed my attention. Her gowns were perfectly tailored, luxurious, gorgeous, and elegant. The designs complimented her 50s short hairstyle with large locks. What do you think fashionistas?

Exercise with Dog Walking

My best friend and I both have dogs, and we love to spend as much time as possible taking them out for a walk in the park and on the street. The perks of this fun activity is that we get to squeeze in exercise even on days we lack the motivation to break a sweat. 

Here are some fun facts about walking: 

1mile (1.6KM) = (roughly) 100 calories burned 

1 hour of walking at a normal speed= (roughly) 300 calories

1 hour of walking at a faster pace= (roughly) 400 calories

How much does this amount to in one week:

To loose 1 pound or (roughly .5 kg) in a week you need to burn around 400 calories a day. If you walk your dog every day for 1 month you can loose around 4 pounds or 2 kg (not bad for just walking your beloved pet for an hour each day). 

For me, an additional benefit (and equally important) is that my dog is healthier and I am happier as we both get our share of endorphins!

Hippie Style

Although I have never been to the Woodstock, I have always been a hippie at heart. I adore the music and the culture of the 1960s and 1970s, and I feel that this era paved the way for important political changes that occurred later. I am also a very big supporter of natural lifestyle that embraces cultivation of respect and love for your environment and others around you.

In the photos below, I did my best to channel my inner hippie. My outfit includes: Ralph Lauren Collection Bag, Zara Boots, BCBG Shirt, Zara Pants, Ralph Lauren leather jacket, and Urban Outfitters Sunglasses.

Legally Blonde Fashion

One of my favorite movies is Legally Blonde for its quirkiness, fashion moments and its powerful message, i.e. that young women can be impeccably stylish, gorgeous and academically accomplished.  Reese Witherspoon plays Elle Woods who goes to Harvard Law School (in Boston) to win her ex-boyfriend back. She is not afraid to stand out in her pink ensemble and her stylish Chihuahua against the bland world of academia. If you have not seen this movie, it's a must for fashionistas. Also, there was a sequel made: Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde, which is set in Washington, D.C. For details (or a fun flashback), please see the photos below.

Faux Fur Hat

Happy Monday fashionistas! I meant to share this outfit with you. In the photos below, I picked out my old Armani gray jeans, black Calvin Klein sweater, Zara blazer, Givenchy pearls, Moschino sunglasses encrusted with gemstones, and French Connection faux-fur hat.  I chose this outfit because I love the orange Zara blazer with zebra lining; the rest of my outfit I kept within a similar tone: gray/black. This outfit allows you to wear a thin coat during the winter because you already have two layers: your blazer and a sweater beneath. Also, the faux-fur prevents your body's heat loss. What do you think fashionistas?

I just wrote a post on the chameleon like Linda Evangelista and could not help but to do a follow-up on her counterpart, the exotic beauty Helena Christensen.  Helena Christensen is Danish (born in Copenhagen); her father is Danish and her mother is Peruvian. Her grand entry into the fashion industry began after she won Miss Denmark in 1986. 

The well-known video "Wicked Games" by Chris Isaak featured Helena; the video made her infamously sexy outside of fashion industry and around the globe. Helena has modeled for Victoria Secret as their Angel; graced top-knotch fashion magazine covers (e.g., Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, W, etc.); been the face for campaigns of fashion powerhouses (e.g., Chanel, Prada, Revlon, Versacea, Lanvin, Hermes, Valentino, etc.); and has taken up photography (her photographs have appeared in Elle and Marie Claire). I have always been inspired by the western old Hollywood movies. Good prevailed over the bad, justice was always served, and the fashions were natural and tough. Cowboys and Indianans always dressed in leather that was worn out from their action packed lifestyles. Today, I wanted to feel like an western movie siren. For me, she is the ultimate super model because of her ability to radically transform into whatever story the campaign was trying to convey.  Linda could be transformed into a soft-feminine-classical-beauty or into a cutting-edge-trendy supermodel. She is very rare because any hairstyle complemented her gorgeous features. For a long time she was the muse of the ultra famous fashion photographer Steven Meisel, whose work constantly braced U.S. and Italia Vogue. Being a part of the world's top earning models (along with Naomi Campbell, Stephanie Seymour, Helena Christensen, Christy Turlington, Claudia Schiffer, and Cindy Crawford), Linda said "[w]e don't wake up for lessthan $10,000 a day." Velvet Fashion

I was shopping yesterday during Black Friday and stumbled upon a gorgeous red velvet blazer in the Burberry store. The blazer had amazing stitching and maroon red was just perfect for the winter, e.g. you could combine it with jeans and light brown boots during the day or with a black skirt and opaque black stalkings during the night.

Consequently, I decided to research a little more about velvet this season. I found that many celebrities and designers have shifted their focus to this soft and warm material. Velvet was very popular in the 70s; it was part of the hippie-chic style; it has made a come back in Winter 2012. For examples of many velvet styles, see the photos below.

Mad Tea Party Alice in Wonderland

Although your everyday routine may lack imagination, it is important to use our right side of the brain and let the creative side have its fun. As a child, I was fascinated by Alice in Wonderland.  For me, the novel represented a small girl whose fantasy became the reality once she fell down the rabbit hole. This mini-photoshoot was inspired by the Mad Tea Party, where Alice is bombarded by riddles and the Hatter reveals that they have tea all day because time has punished them by standing still at 6pm, i.e., tea time. Growing up, I watched JFK Jr. Unfortunately, during my teenage years, he lost his life on July 16, 1999 in a plane accident with his wife, Carolyn Bessette and her sister, Lauren Bessette. JFK Jr. is mostly known for being the elder son of JFK, the president of the U.S., and Jackie Kennedy, who also became a symbol of timeless elegance. He lived in the White House for three years before his father was tragically assassinated in Dallas, Texas on November 22, 1963. Afterwards, JFK Jr. resided on the Upper East Side in Manhattan (New York City).

How to Pull Off Colors During Winter

Every winter, the dark tones (e.g. black, brown, gray, etc.) of clothes weight down on my mood. Consequently, I decided to do a little research for the particular colors that could pass muster in winter. Many of you may be thinking, my tan has faded and I am better stick to the dark colors. I suggest that you put on a little self-tanner just enough to give you a glow and then pick out the right colors for your complexion, hair and eye color and get out the door feeling livelier than hiding in that oversized black sweater. I researched celebrities like  Claudia Schiffer, the Olsen twins, Rosie Huntington Whitley, and Blake Lively for cues. Ursula Andress is a German-Swiss actress, whose naturally gorgeous face and knockout figure raised eyebrows worldwide in the first James Bond film, Dr. No.  (I have italicized naturally because nowadays it is very common that an actress undergoes multiple plastic surgeries; hence, the public is really not sure whether to admire the natural beauty or the cosmetic procedures.) 

Ursula Andress was all natural when she captured the public's attention by walking from the sea onto the beach in a white bathing suit and carrying pastel colored-shells. She soon became the quintessential bond girl and a sex symbol of the 1960s.  Her co-stars included Sean Connery, Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin. A week before James Dean's death, she was photographed kissing him at an event in L.A. Her naturally voluptuous figure and glowing beauty is extremely difficult to outshine.

The first time I noticed Kate Upton was (unlike most of the world who took note of her from Sports Illisturated) was in Harper's Bazaar modeling with Jared Leto. I really liked her styling for the photo shoot. Hence, I looked her up. I found out she is only 20 years old. 

Although she has gained fame from her Sports Illustrated pages and other bikini spreads, I thought after styling she fits quite well in the high design industry. The Vogue Italia shoot really portrayed her as a modern bombshell, perhaps even akin to Marilyn Monroe. I have been fascinated with the X-Men comics since I was a little child. The early X-Men movies were enthralling; I was especially captivated with the character Mystique and Rebecca Romijn. 

Rebecca Romijn is by far one of the most beautiful public figures in the world. This Dutch-American beauty is 5'11. She was a model for powerhouses like Victoria's Secret, Sports Illustrated and Giorgio Armani. She ran the runways alongside with Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, Christy Turlington, etc. Her first major movie role was as Mystique in X-Men.

I have always been fascinated with the vintage Charlie's Angels series because of the imprint they left on popular culture, e.g. music and style. There was so much appeal in the 70s television series that Hollywood decided to make a modern adaptation movie, Charlie's Angels, starring Drew Barrymore, Cameron Diaz and Lucy Liu. Nevertheless, I have remained fascinated with the 70s television series when it came to the elegance of the Angels, their modest yet extremely chic clothing, 70s hippie-chic hairstyles and vintage convertible cars. Below I have included some photos of the iconic Angels.

Faux Fur Vest

It is hard to dress for the fall days when bulky jackets seem so unnecessary and thin ones make your teeth rattle. The perfect solution to transition seasons is the faux fur vest.

I have so many faux fur vests because I find them to be so practical. They keep me warm, but they don’t make me look bulky. I love how great they look when layered over other pieces and they transition from day to night perfectly.

While in NYC, I wore a faux fur jacket I bought a long time ago in Madrid, Spain. Even though the vest seemed like the trend of the season back then, fast forward a couple of years later, and it is still a full-blown trend; it seems like it will be here to stay.
