All About Lake Como, Italy

Lake Como, which is of glacial origin, is located in Lombardy, Italy. One can make a day trip to Lake Como from Milan; Lake Como is conveniently located only 50 miles from Milan.

The lake is shaped like a wishbone, and is surrounded by the towns of Como, Tremezzo, Menaggio, and Lenno. Attractions around Lake Como include the Lake Como Cathedral, Lake Como Funicular, the picturesque town of Bellagio, villas (e.g., Villa Carlotta in Tremezzo that was built in the 17th century and features spectacular paintings and sculptures with general admissions about $11; Villa Balbianello in Lenno that was built in the 18th century and has been a filming destination for movies like Casino Royale and Star Wars Eposide II-Attack of Clones) and museums.

Lake Como has been an "it" getaway for aristocrats and other well-to-do people since the Roman empire. There are many villas and palaces, e.g. Villa Olmo, Villa Serbelloni and Villa Carlotta.
