Saving Money Tips for Fashionistas

By Morgan Gray

A Lifestyle of Savings: Penny-Pinching Tips

We all know that if we can save money on the things we need, there will be more money left for the things we want. While this may seem rather trite, the truth remains that affordable living is valuable. While life can get expensive at times, there are several ways that everyone can embrace a more affordable lifestyle.

Fashion

Cute clothes and trendy looks don’t have to cost a fortune. Often where you shop is as important as what you buy. For great eyeglasses, shop online at Warby Parker. Here, you can find the great designer looks at a fraction of the cost with amazing quality and design. Additionally, for each pair of glasses they sell, Warby Parker gives a pair to a deserving individual who cannot afford to buy them.

Rather than spending lots of money on jewelry, look for ways to recycle old costume pieces. I love sorting through my grandmother’s jewelry box to find accessories to match my favorite outfits.

Beauty

I’m sure you’ve heard the old adage, “Waste not, want not.” It certainly applies to beauty products. While looking great may take some time and attention, it doesn’t have to break the bank. Be sure you are using the entire product you purchase and minimizing waste.

Don’t use cotton balls as applicators. While these fluffy bits are soft and comfortable against your skin, they also soak up product, resulting in excessive waste. Instead, use flat face pads or switch to product-specific applicators to conserve product.

Many cosmetic companies have recycling programs. MAC Cosmetics encourages consumers to recycle by offering a free lipstick to those who return empty MAC Cosmetics containers to them for repurposing.

Lifestyle

Many other things in life cost money as well. Fortunately, almost any place you spend money there is also a way to save. I particularly love using coupon codes to save money on daily needs as well as the occasional splurge. At RetailMeNot, you can find discounts on many items. These discounts are redeemable either online or in retail stores.

If you love fashion magazines like I do, be careful not to fall prey to newsstand prices. If you purchase more than two fashion magazines at these rates, you are losing money. Instead, get a one-year or longer subscription to a favorite magazine. You can find even more savings by shopping for them online at sites such as thriftymags.com.
