The HBO series Sex and the City took the world by storm. We all welcomed Sarah Jessica Parker (in the show Carrie Bradshaw), Kim Carttrall (in the show Samantha Jones), Kristin Davis (in the show Charlotte York Goldenblatt) and Cynthia Nixon (in the show Miranda Hobbes) into our living rooms. Many women could relate and even many more found the show entertaining, humorous, witty and relaxing. The show is about a group of friends who are inseparable and confide in each other throughout their lives unexpected twists and turns. The four have very different personalities and almost every viewer could identify with one of the characters. The show's characters are in their thirties and forties, and they live very modern lives through which subjects like sexuality, femininity and even sexually transmitted diseases are brought to light.
The series was so popular worldwide that two movies, Sex and the City and Sex and the City 2, were produced featuring the exact same cast. Riding off the wave of its success, the network CW began the production of the Carrie Diaries, which is a spin-off of Sarah Jessica Parker's time in high school.
The styling of Sarah Jessica Parker was noticed worldwide, and subsequently SJP became a fashion icon. The ladies of the show were particularly well put together and always wearing the latest "it" articles of the fashion industry.
