Looking at Cindy Crawford, or any supermodel of that decade, it is important to point out their normal weight. Unlike today, where the fashion industry has ostracized the normal population by hand picking women whom do not resemble the rest of the population, most women could relate to Cindy's body size. Fashion is always changing, and it is expected that what was once considered attractive is not today; however, most of us can agree that in the fashion world some of the models are ridiculously skinny and starve themselves in order to be so.

I wanted to mention this fact because as I was writing this article and looking through pictures of Cindy this came to my mind. She was the epitome of curves and beauty, but I think that nowadays, she would be considered a plus size model.

I absolutely love Cindy Crawford! In my mind, she will forever be the ultimate bombshell. Ever since I can remember, growing up, in every major magazine, there were other supermodels and then there was Cindy. To this day, she has left her mark on the fashion world, and she will forever be remembered as one of the top supermodels of all time.

Why Cindy Stood Out from All Other Supermodels

What I loved the most about Cindy is the fact that she did not fit the typical “model mold.” Cindy, along with Naomi Campbell, was different! She was not a blonde and did not look very “girl next door.” Also, she had a signature mole above her lip.

Fashion designer Michael Kors summed it up the best, “Cindy changed the perception of the ‘sexy American girl’ from classic blue-eyed blonde to a more sultry brunette with brains, charm, and professionalism to spare.”

Her Evolution

She was born in DeKalb, Illinois in 1966. She was discovered at the age of 16 when she was photographed at her summer job de-tasseling corn. The photo received really good reviews and eventually she signed-on to Elite Model Management in Chicago. She graduated in 1984 as valedictorian of her class and won a scholarship to study chemical engineering at Northwestern University but eventually dropped out to pursue her modeling career in New York. Since then, she has graced numerous magazines, including but not limited to Elle, Vogue, Cosmopolitan, Harper’s Bazaar, and Allure. She was the face of numerous beauty and fashion campaigns, e.g., Versace, Revlon, and Escada.

One of Cindy’s major contributions to the fashion world was the red Versace dress she wore to the Oscars in 1991 alongside Richard Gere. It left a significant impact as many designers have tried to replicate that dress.
