Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Hermes, Prada… It is undeniable that designer handbags have revolutionized the world of fashion. To some, a Chanel bag is more than just an accessory; it makes them feel powerful. I have to admit, I love all of these designers. I mean, who doesn’t? But, I also think a boundary is often crossed when it comes to designer goods: Are women allowing these bags to define them? Have designer labels become a status symbol in our society?
I am a firm believer in the phrase, “Work hard, play hard.” Sometimes, it is nice to reward ourselves for the number of hours and the amount of energy we put into work. Instead of going on a vacation, some women prefer to buy the newest Marc Jacobs bag from his Fall Collection. To each their own, right?
Unfortunately, as the media continues to tell people that they must look a ‘certain’ way, we often feel obligated to remain on top of the latest trends. Let me tell you folks, these designer products are not cheap. One Hermes Birkin bag can cost roughly $10,500. I don’t know about you, but I could never afford this bag.
For those who are capable of purchasing these expensive bags, that’s great! Continue doing what makes you happy! However, realistically, many cannot afford Hermes, Louis Vuitton, and Chanel. Lucky for us, we have some amazing cheaper alternatives! Let me give you a quick list:
1. Marc Jacobs
2. Michael Kors
3. Kate Spade
6. Juicy Couture
7. Tory Burch

My personal favorites include Longchamp and Marc Jacobs, simply because I can actually buy their products. For years now, I have owned a large purple Longchamp bag that has helped me carry many items at once, including my laptop and textbooks. Or, if you are looking for something a little smaller, I recommend Michael Kors because his bags come in numerous sizes. I will admit, it is my dream to one day own a Chanel bag. But until then, I will continue to purchase my favorites, i.e. Marc Jacobs, because they are durable and stylish.

Bags can be a girl’s best friend, which is why my friends adore them as well! One of my good friends enjoys Marc Jacobs just as much as I do. In fact, she went and bought the same MARC by Marc Jacobs bag the day after I bought it! On the other hand, one of my other good friends has been sporting Coach over the shoulder purses for years. Evidently, these designers are timeless.
Just remember, you do not need a lot of money to own designer labels. The key is to find the ones you can actually afford! One piece of advice I have for everyone: never let a material object define who you are. Own the bag, don’t let it own you. Signing off from Seattle, until next time, xoxo!
