History of the Celine brand:

Celine is a French luxury brand founded in 1945 by Celine Vipiana, and is currently owned by LVMH (purchased in 1988 for $540 million). Surprisingly, the brand was originally created to make custom fit children's shoes and eventually began producing women's shoes and accessories. 

Celine Vipiana was the designer from 1945-1997. In 1997, the well-known American designed Michael Kors was named the creative director of Celine. 

During his time at Celine, Michael Kors turned the brand into a powerhouse with its ready-to-wear line; he designed for the lablel until 2004. 

Although the creative directors of Celine have changed (the latest one-Phoebe Philo- appointed in 2008), Celine has emerged into a world class luxury brand.
