Audrey Hepburn starred in less films after her mid thirties and devoted her life to humanitarian work, mostly UNICEF. She contributed to UNICEF since 1954; she worked with extremely impoverished communities in Africa, South America and Asia between 1988 and 1992. She was awarded by George H.W. Bush the Presidential Medal of Freedom for her work as a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador in late 1992. A month later in 1993 at the age of 63, Hepburn died of appendiceal cancer at her home in Switzerland. She had a heart of gold--a graceful lady who was beautiful both on the inside and out.
