How to Wear Yellow--4 Golden Rules

By Amra B.

I am big fan of yellow during the summer; it is one of the most flattering colors against tanned skin and never fails to make a statement. Also, yellow has the ability to influence our mood; it has been linked to laughter, happiness, optimism and good times. Lastly, yellow has the power to instantly refresh any outfit: since it is a bright color, a few strategically placed pieces can go a long way.

4 Styling Tips on How to Wear Yellow:

1. Stick to one bright color: yellow paired-up with other bright colors can give an overly “costume-ish” effect. Additional bright colors should be reserved only for shoes, purse, or jewelry.

2. Add contrast: for a totally chic effect, pair-up yellow with dark pieces. I love wearing yellow pieces with dark blue denim or black. Dark colors make any yellow clothing stand out incredibly well. The image below shows some color combinations that are particularly flattering when combined with yellow.

3. Add accessories: for this summer, I love mixing yellow clothes with bold accessories. Although, I prefer to balance out the warmth of yellow with “coolness” of silver jewelry, gold statement pieces can be equally as flattering.

4. Pair it up with a bright lipstick: yellow outfit paired-up with red or a pink lip equals instant glamour. As yellow is a bold color, it only deserves to be paired-up with an equally bold lipstick. Bright red and pink are my two favorites; however, deep red and browns can also be flattering. Orange lipstick may add too much “warmth” to an already warm color, and I would not recommend it.
