Style Chat with the Spanish Tech-Savvy Blogger: Loreto Gordo

By Paulina Fornovi

She simply glows: she is full of enthusiasm, has the beauty of a girl-next-door look, and is one of the most well known bloggers in Spain. Her name: Loreto Gordo.

I wanted to introduce Loreto Gordo to the world because she has a very positive and inspiring story. She pursued her love for fashion since the early age, decided to leave the fashion industry to become a kindergarden teacher only to re-enter it and develop an application for fashionistas: MyLuks...

Her style is laid back and very natural. Almost everything she wears looks effortlessly beautiful!

Here is her story...

Paulina Fornovi (for Club Fashionista): When did you passion for fashion become pronounced? At what age?

Loreto Gordo: Perhaps, it was something innate. Since I was young, I was very flirtatious with all things fashion, e.g., fashion magazines, my mother's clothes and makeup. In fact, I remember crying when my mother forced me to wear a dress I did not fancy. Also, I remember, while holding my mother's hand, stopping in front of so many window shops to admire the mannequins and their dresses. I soaked up the colors and the different ways the mannequins were dressed.

I recall that in middle school one of my worst "enemies" was our ugly gym uniform, which we had to wear during our physical education class. I would cringe at the sight of it and hurry after class to change because I was horrified at the idea that others on the streets would see me in a gym uniform. In fact, even if the class was at 9am and I was running late to school, I would leave home with my hair made-up and my outfit carefully picked-out, and then change quickly for the gym class. I vowed that no one but my classmates would ever see me in a sweatshirt or that gym uniform.

Paulina Fornovi: When did you decide to dedicate your professional life to fashion? Was there a key factor that influenced your decision?

Loreto Gordo: I remember when I was 18 years old, we were going through all the possible majors; none of them excited me like the thought of obtaining a bachelors degree in fashion. My level of enthusiasm and motivation peaked every time I thought about fashion. All the subject matters relating to fashion, I was ready to soak-up. Thus, after a talk with my parents, both agreed and were delighted to see me happy pursuing a degree in fashion design.

I graduated at the top of my class, and worked afterwards for a firm, which specialized in designing wedding dresses. I had another calling, which was to teach kindergarden; I have always loved children so it seemed natural. At the time, I decided to put fashion on the side and dedicated my life to teaching. I continue to express my enthusiasam for fashion through an outlet: my personal blog called Made in Style.

Paulina Fornovi: How many years have you spent working in the fashion industry?

Loreto Gordo: Two and a half years; from March 2011 until present.

Loreto Gordo: Fashion Stylist from Madrid
Paulina Fornovi: You have an application for fashionsitas caleld MyLuks, which I will ask you about in a minute. First, I would like to know how do you think the fashion industry has evolved with the advent of the Internet and social media?

Loreto Gordo: I believe it has evolved a great deal since the Internet allows for us to find a greater variety of people, blogs and styles. People can express their individuality through their blogs and interact with others either of similar interest or fans.

Paulina Fornovi: Can you tell us about the phone application for fashionistas you are working on, MyLuks?

Loreto Gordo: Firstly, I would like to mention that not long ago, I received an invitation from Terra Spain, a portal for digital media, to feature my street style after my personal blog Made in Spain became popular. My style became even more widely followed after I joined Terra Spain. Now about the phone application for fashionistas I have been working on...

It is called MyLuks, and it is an application for fashionistas that permits you to organize your closet and create your own looks. It is a lot of fun and very useful! I have combined the Terra Spain features and my personal blog Made in Style.

Paulina Fornovi: Where do you see within three years?

Loreto Gordo: Well, as I always say, I like to live every day and let life surprised me.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

Loreto Gordo: Hmm...in many places! Haha, certainly, I would like to dabb my fingers in becoming editor of a well known magazine, and appearing on international television. I would like to be involved in teaching as well...in another words, in many places! :)

Paulina Fornovi: Being so busy with teaching, developing MyLuks and writing your own fashion blog, how do you handle your personal life?

Loreto Gordo: I miss spending more time with friends but I am optimistic since little by little I am becoming better organized and trying to establish a balanced life.

Paulina Fornovi: Since many young Spaniards have been leaving Spain (and crossing into the likes of UK and even South America) during the deep economic recession in Spain, emigration has become a hot topic. What do you think of the emigration?

Loreto Gordo: I believe it is personal, and for me I still find many plenty of options in Spain. I suppose from my circle of friends, many after completing their university studies have received job offers, I remain positive. With that said, if I was out of work, I would pack my bags and seek employment in another country. I have been very fortunate not to have been obliged to move away from my home country. that as they are in Spain things I find very good choice.

Paulina Fornovi: Do you plan to go on some vacation getaway soon?

Loreto Gordo: I just came back from my summer vacation on the Mediterranean; with that said, I would have gladly stayed there for at least a week or more. The beach and the glistening waters breathe life into me.

Paulina Fornovi: With the MyLuks application and your personal blog, could you do your work from any part of the world?

Loreto Gordo: If I had internet, yes (haha)...

Loreto Gordo
Paulina Fornovi: Since you entered the world of fashion, what was it that immediately struck you?

Loreto Gordo: It was the comments that people would leave on my personal blog...there was everything! Also, after entering the world of Terra, I noticed that the team I worked with was very energetic and positive; during photo shoots, we would continually laugh!

Paulina Fornovi: What advice would you give to readers Club Fashionista?

Loreto Gordo: If you believe in your dream, you really have to fight for it. You need to fall in love and marry that dream. Work steadily to make the dream come true. The day that you become unfaithful, your efforts may have been made in vain...

¡Me chiflaba!

No me gustaría revelarlos todavía... (jejeje)

Loreto Gordo
¿Dónde te gustaría estar dentro de 10 años?

Puff..

¿Te gustaría irte a algún lado?
