Visit the Gorgeous European Villa Vizcaya in the Heart of Miami!

By Elma B.

While I lived in Miami, I heard about Vizcaya from a born and raised Miamian. He said that the place was very romantic. Hence, on my day off, I decided to explore.

This villa is located in Coral Gables on the coastline with a jaw-dropping view and is surrounded by Versailles-like gardens. The back of the villa has a terrace that overlooks the Atlantic Ocean. The side and the front are surrounded with a gorgeous garden that hosts exotic flowers all year round (the weather in Miami makes this possible). When in the gardens, a person is momentarily shielded from the noise and the hustle of the city of Miami. The garden is very peaceful and the nearest sounds are the subtle waves hitting the large-stone portico of the back of the villa. Inside Vizcaya, one can find (European) Renaissance paintings, European tapestry and furniture. Even the roof of one room was imported from an Italian villa.

The villa was the winter residence of the American industrialist John Deering from 1916 until 1925. While he occupied the villa, there were only 10,000 people, whom by-and-large were employed by him, living in Miami. It’s simply a must-see while visiting in Miami.
