Met Ball

By Elma B.

The Costume Institute Ball, also known as the Met Ball or the Met Gala, takes place annually and celebrates the opening of the Costume Institute, which is like a miniature museum within the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The Costume Institute features fashion exhibits. The Met Ball is a red carpet event, where the biggest names in the fashion industry along with many Oscar winners attend and wear some of the most intricate gowns. The event is hosted by Vogue and another fashion industry member and has been taking place since 1948.

Anna Wintour oversees the guest list of the Met Ball. A ticket, which is hard to come by, was speculated to be up to $25,000 at the last Met Ball in May of 2012. The tables ranged from $75,000-$250,000 for corporations depending on the size of the corporation and its relationship with Vogue. The Met Ball is one of the biggest fundraising nights in New York City. For more details of the Met Ball, see some of the Ball's most memorable gowns below.
