When It Shines, It Blinds

Amra B.

There is something funny about how we notice things that are missing in our life a lot more often than ones present. In our pursuit of happiness, we always dream of better days, but seldom acknowledge any beauty surrounding us in the present. On the other hand, we tend to look at the past with nostalgic eyes and the more distant it seems, the more we seem to miss it. We end up stuck between the past and the future, thinking about what once was and what will be. I often imagine how my future self may be jelous of my current moments, missing the sunny days in the park spent laughing with my friends.

When have you last ran downhill full speed just like when you were a child? Had an ice cream on the swings? Fed the ducks with bread crumbs? Laughed silly?

In the 1902 book, "Sun Dials and Roses of Yesterday: Garden Delights…" by Alice Morse Earle, it is noted:  "The clock is running. Make the most of today. Time waits for no man. Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift. That's why it is called the present."

I wish you an amazing weekend!

XOXO
